When Michael Novotny was in high school, his mother informed him that he was gay to save him the pain of having to come out to her. And that kind of sums up his life.
Michael is 29, lives in Pittsburgh, works at the Big Q, and spends most of his time with his group of very close friends hanging out on Liberty Avenue either at Woody’s, a local gay bar, Babylon, one of many clubs in the area, or the Liberty Diner, where his mother works. He enjoys dancing, music, and comic books, especially Captain Astro, with whom he’s been moderately obsessed since childhood. (He’s convinced Captain Astro is actually gay.)
He’s fun-loving, if a little high strung, and he would do anything for a friend. Especially if that friend is Brian Kinney. Mostly, he wants what any gay man his age wants: to get drunk (or high), go dancing, meet a guy and get lucky. And if he can keep doing that once or twice a week, he’ll be content. If he can also see his friends happy (probably by doing the same once or twice a week), he’ll be ecstatic. Other than that, he has no idea what he wants to do with his life. Sometimes it bothers him, but mostly he just doesn’t think about it
Michael is very much defined by his relationships with others: his overbearing, fiercely supportive mother; his HIV-positive, role model uncle; his out-and-proud roommate; and mostly, his dysfunctional, oversexed, charismatic best friend.
Michael’s relationship with Brian is a bit tumultuous, but he loves Brian completely, sometimes as more than a friend, even if he’s unwilling to admit that to himself. He’s protective of Brian, and constantly making excuses for Brian’s behavior, even when it hurts him. It’s kind of his fatal flaw.
Michael Novotny is from Queer As Folk (U.S. edition), and is the property of Showtime, Temple Street Productions, and other people who are not me. He appears here solely for the purpose of role-playing in , from which no profit whatsoever is being made. Mun and muse are both over 18.
